Green Moong Dal Recipe – Ingredients required

Green Moong Dal: Of course good quality moong dal is required to make this recipe. It is very important to wash the dal properly and soak it for 30 minutes or so. Make sure to wash the dal properly before soaking the dal. If you wash the dal after soaking it, the skin will be all washed off which is not wanted.

Ghee and butter: What makes this dal special is its tempering. The tempering calls for a combination of ghee and butter. Make sure to add the ghee first otherwise the butter might get burnt.

Other ingredients: Little ginger paste is added which adds some sharpness to the dal and enhances the flavor of garlic. Other than these cumin seeds and red chili powder, which are essentials for any tempering, are also added.

Flavorings: The dal is finished with some lemon juice and black pepper powder.

How to make Green Moong Dal?

Perfectly made green moong dal has a smooth texture, it is perfectly cooked and is appropriately flavored. To make perfect green moong dal following points should be kept in mind:

  1. Wash the dal properly.
  2. Soak it for 30 minutes. Do not soak it for too long. Do not soak for lesser time otherwise, the dal will not get the correct texture.
  3. The ratio of water used for the green moong dal recipe is very important. If you plan to serve it immediately after preparing it, use 1 and ½ cup of water for ½ cup of dal. And if you plan to serve it like a couple of hours later, add 2 cups of water for ½ cup of dal, so that when it thickens it will have the correct consistency at the time of serving.
  4. While preparing the tempering, make sure not to burn the butter. Always add ghee or oil first followed by the butter. Let the butter melt on low flame. Then proceed with it.

Hi! I am CA Vini Mehta. A Chartered Accountant by profession, a food blogger by passion! First of all, I would like to thank you for stopping by at Viniscookbook, I hope you have a good time. Here, yo...u will find the recipes which have been tried, at times re-tried in my kitchen and relished on the dining table. I am mother of two kids and the wife of a person with a high and selective taste sense, so basically anything, before finding its place on the blog, has many levels to cross and clear. This journey started a couple of years back. Before that I was making the most usual kind of food. The only experiment used to be asking my mother how to make something new or different☺. Then, one day, I tried a recipe for butter cookies. And they did not get to go in the container as they were over before I could store them. That day I was introduced to the joy of experimenting with recipes. And I loved everything else that followed especially garnishing and photographing food. I am still not well versed with the photography dos and don’ts but I love to experiment and learn, be it photography or cooking. Hope you too enjoy this journey as much as I do☺! Stay healthy, stay tuned!.
