A mix of spices such as roasted cumin seeds powder, mint powder; pepper powder, etc that is used to season yogurt is dahi masala. However, it is not just limited to yogurt or dahi. Dahi masala can very well be used to flavor raita, lassi, chach, dahi vada, etc. It will not be wrong to state that dahi masala is also raita masala or dahi vada masala. A simple bowl of yogurt can be converted into a delish side dish with a pinch of dahi masala. The dahi masala recipe is very customizable. You can adjust the quantity of spices as per your liking. You can add different flavoring agents or omit the ones used in this recipe, as per your liking.
Salt: I do not use table salt for the yogurt or salad recipes. Therefore I have used black salt only.
Roasted Cumin Seeds Powder: Heat a pan. Add cumin seeds. Roast on low flame. Roast till aromatic. Let it cool down. Grind to a fine powder.
Mint Powder: Thoroughly wash mint leaves. Let these dry completely. Leave on the kitchen counter for 2-3 days. Once it dries completely grind to make a powder. Make sure to sieve it.
Peppers and chilies: I have used black pepper powder for this recipe. You can also use white pepper powder. Further little red chili powder has been used. You can skip it totally if you don’t like uncooked red chili powder.
You need to combine the ingredients to make the dahi masala. However, the masala can be flavored in so many more ways. Roasted fennel seeds (saunf) powder, carom seeds (ajwain) powder, etc can also be added. You can change the proportions of the ingredients used in this recipe as per your liking.
