Let’s talk about the ingredients for tamatar ka shorba

No points for guessing, tamatar shorba calls for tomatoes. Generally, salad or soup tomatoes are used to make soups. However, for tamatar shorba even the desi tamatar (the tangy ones) can be used. Apart from that some basic spices and fresh ingredients such as ginger, green chilies and garlic have been used. You can use ginger garlic paste.

How To Make Tamatar Ka Shorba

1. Add 3 chopped tomatoes in a pressure cooker

2. Now add 1 tsp ginger chili paste, 1 garlic clove and whole spices i.e. 1 bay leaf (tej patta), 1-inch cinnamon stick (dal chini), 1 black cardamom (Badi elaichi) and 1-star anise (chakra phool)

3. Add 2 and ½ cups water

4. Pressure cook for 5 whistles

5. Once the pressure releases, discard the whole spices and blend it using a hand blender or mixer. Blend it well

6. To prepare its tempering, heat 1 tsp clarified butter (ghee)

7. Add ½ tsp cumin seeds (jeera) and let it splutter

8. Now add ½ tsp red chilli powder and ¼ tsp turmeric powder(haldi) and cook for 30 seconds

9. Add prepared shorba

10. Simmer for 10 minutes

11. Add salt to taste

12. Bon appétit: Check seasoning and consistency. Garnish with a coriander leaf or coriander leaves and serve hot
