Green grams or moong beans are germinated to make moong beans sprouts. The process increases the nutritive value of the already healthy green grams. It is very easy and simple to sprout green grams at home. The time required to sprout mung beans at home depends on various factor and therefore can take anywhere from 8 hours to 48 hours to sprout. Let’s also discuss the health benefits of mung beans and why should we sprout beans at home instead of buying readymade ones?

1. Take 1 cup mung beans. Clea to get rid of any stones etc. Wash thoroughly.
2. Soak in 4 cups of water.
3. Leave it for at least 8 hours.
4. After 8 hours the beans will almost double in size. Discard the water.
5. Place a colander/big strainer on a bowl. This arrangement will ensure beans get enough air from the bottom.
6. Put the soaked mung beans in the strainer.
7. Cover with a MOIST kitchen towel. Now, sprouting might take anything from a few hours to a couple of days. If mung beans are taking longer to sprout, just sprinkle little water on them or make sure the kitchen towel is moist
8. After 36 hours, I had these. Make sure the kitchen towel is moist all the time.
9. Ready to use!
