What is Sattu Drink?

A very simple summer beverage prepared with sattu, which helps to fight the sunstroke, is sattu drink. Sattu, unfortunately, is not a very well known ingredient in spite of the sattu benefits. However, gradually people are becoming aware of it and adding sattu in their diet. This recipe calls for chana sattu. It is a very refreshing drink and is consumed by the laborers etc especially during the summers so that they are protected and saved from the scorching heat of the sun.

Let’s talk about the ingredients for the Sattu Drink

Sattu, the ground form of roasted pulses or cereals! What is Sattu, what are the sattu benefits and what are sattu recipes or recipes using sattu?  I am working on all these questions and soon I shall post a blog on this. The sattu ka ghol recipe doesn’t call for many ingredients. Sattu ka ghol is basically sattu ka sharbat. This is the sweet version. Salty or savory sattu drink is also prepared. Let’s see the ingredients required to make the sattu drink:

Sattu: I have used homemade chana sattu to make sattu drink. Although sattu Sharbat can be prepared using other variety of sattu too, I have yet to try those.

Powdered sugar: I have added powdered sugar for the sweetness. You can add jaggery.

Roasted cumin seeds powder: This gives a nice kick. Cumin seeds are anyways good for the summer recipes.

Black Salt: Salt balances all the flavors of the drink.

Hi! I am CA Vini Mehta. A Chartered Accountant by profession, a food blogger by passion! First of all, I would like to thank you for stopping by at Viniscookbook, I hope you have a good time. Here, yo...u will find the recipes which have been tried, at times re-tried in my kitchen and relished on the dining table. I am mother of two kids and the wife of a person with a high and selective taste sense, so basically anything, before finding its place on the blog, has many levels to cross and clear. This journey started a couple of years back. Before that I was making the most usual kind of food. The only experiment used to be asking my mother how to make something new or different☺. Then, one day, I tried a recipe for butter cookies. And they did not get to go in the container as they were over before I could store them. That day I was introduced to the joy of experimenting with recipes. And I loved everything else that followed especially garnishing and photographing food. I am still not well versed with the photography dos and don’ts but I love to experiment and learn, be it photography or cooking. Hope you too enjoy this journey as much as I do☺! Stay healthy, stay tuned!.
