Onion raita recipe is a mix of yogurt and onion which is flavoured with cumin powder and refreshing greens such as mint and coriander. Raitas are a side dish and are indispensable with pulao and biryani. They work very well with parathas too.
Onions raita calls for some fresh and well whisked yogurt and finely chopped onions. If the onions are too pungent, it is advisable to cut them into two and soak in some water for 10-12 minutes. Thereafter discard that water and chop the onions. The yogurt should not be sour. However if it is, adding a little milk might work. Cold yougurt is always better for raitas. Onion raita is great for summers. It helps to beat the heat. Other elements added in the raita also work well to beat the heat. They are roasted cumin powder, coriander and mint.
