Potatoes flavored with garlic and chilies dipped in gram flour batter, and deep-fried to make lip-smacking batata vada. Batata vada, when sandwiched in a pav along with spicy and flavorsome vada pav chutney, makes a very popular street food from Mumbai and is called the Mumbai Vada Pav. It is one of the most popularly sold snacks on the streets of Mumbai. However, its deliciousness has made it very popular and vada pav is no longer restricted to Mumbai, rather the same is now prepared and loved by everyone across the country. Mumbai vada pav is an absolutely lip-smacking snack and the same can be relished with a cup of tea.
Batata Vada: As already mentioned, vada pav consists of a spicy and flavorsome deep fried vada. Batata means potatoes, and therefore this deep-fried snack prepared with the filling of potatoes is called the batata vada.
Vada Pav Chutney: Dry chutney prepared with garlic, red chilies, etc is the vada pav chutney. It adds much heat to vada pav. Since it is a dry chutney, it can easily be prepared in advance and in bulk and can be stored in the refrigerator. Doing so, make the preparation of vada pav a fuss-free affair.
Pav: City where I live, we get special pavs to make vada pav. The pavs for vada pav are bigger. I prefer those over the regular pavs. Further, you can also make pav at home.
