Gujarati Breakfast | Gujarati Breakfast Recipes | Gujarati Food

I try to be very serious on the blog. But you talk about Gujarati food and the first thing that comes to my mind is the very popular dialogue of Kareena Kapoor from my all time favorite movie 3 idiots which goes like this “Tum Gujarati log ka khaana Itna khatarnaak kyu hota hai? dhokla, fafda, handva, thepla.. jaise missiles haiI am sure no one must have ever thought like this about Gujarati food. Well back to work now.

As much as I understand Gujarati cuisine it has more of breakfast and snack items to it rather than any elaborate main course food things. And the best part is most of these recipes are super healthy and pretty simple to make. Let’s have a look at the Gujarati breakfast items:

  • Dhokla is a kind of savory steamed cake to me made up of all healthy, often gluten-free ingredients, steamed to cook, so simple to make, easy and fuss-free! What more can you ask for from any breakfast recipe?
  • Thepla, which is flatbread made up of whole wheat flour, gram flour, yogurt, spices, and vegetables is a wholesome combination to kick start the day.
  • Muthia, which are my all time favorite in a lot of Gujarati breakfasts or breakfast generally. Muthia, the word is derived from the word mutthi which means to bind the fist. To prepare muthia the dough is shaped by binding in the fist and so muthia are so called. These are steamed, can also be deep-fried, and then tempered. Such a mix of textures and flavors muthia offer!
  • Khandvi, a gluten-free and very eye catchy dish from the state of Gujarat. As much pretty it may look that much tricky it is to make. Yes, because with khandvi we need to continuously cook the batter so that involves a lot of muscle work (for me it is a lot, it may vary :D)! Secondly, you over-do it or under-do it, and it’s over! Thirdly you have to be super fast while spreading the prepared khandvi mixture. Don’t worry; I also have some good news. Yeah! Recently I prepared khandvi in the microwave and followed a few tips and tricks to make this recipe a fuss-free recipe. And it worked! Although the recipe is not on the blog yet I’ll post it very soon.
  • Chai, we know that a Gujarati breakfast is incomplete without a cup of it. For those who don’t know, know it now.
  • Other accompaniments include pickles, chutney, etc.
  • Other breakfast items include samosa, fafda, jalebi, handvo, patra, etc which are very popular Gujarati breakfast items but are not on the blog yet.

Vini

Hi! I am CA Vini Mehta. A Chartered Accountant by profession, a food blogger by passion! First of all, I would like to thank you for stopping by at Viniscookbook, I hope you have a good time. Here, yo...u will find the recipes which have been tried, at times re-tried in my kitchen and relished on the dining table. I am mother of two kids and the wife of a person with a high and selective taste sense, so basically anything, before finding its place on the blog, has many levels to cross and clear. This journey started a couple of years back. Before that I was making the most usual kind of food. The only experiment used to be asking my mother how to make something new or different☺. Then, one day, I tried a recipe for butter cookies. And they did not get to go in the container as they were over before I could store them. That day I was introduced to the joy of experimenting with recipes. And I loved everything else that followed especially garnishing and photographing food. I am still not well versed with the photography dos and don’ts but I love to experiment and learn, be it photography or cooking. Hope you too enjoy this journey as much as I do☺! Stay healthy, stay tuned!.
