Flavors such as curry leaves, chana dal, urad dal, coconut, etc give it a very different taste. Let’s see what all ingredients are required for this Indian Breakfast Recipe:
Poha: The thick variety of poha is required to make poha upma. In fact, for most of the poha recipes, the thick variety is used except for recipes such as poha chivda, etc.
Tempering: This is the soul of this recipe. A very flavorful tempering of mustard seeds, cumin seeds, lentils, curry leaves, etc. take this poha recipe to another level.
Vegetables: I have used onions and tomatoes to give a body to the poha upma. Tomato is optional but I love to add it, as it gives moistness to poha. Other than these, ginger and green chili is used to flavor poha upma. You can also add green peas, carrot, etc.
Spices: Salt to taste and turmeric powder are the only spices used to make poha upma. No red chili powder has been used.
