What is Instant Oats Dhokla?

Dhokla is a snack from the Gujarati cuisine which is prepared using a fermented batter of rice and dal. However, the instant version is prepared using gram flour. Further instant dhokla can be prepared using other ingredients too such as semolina, etc.

Oats Dhokla is an instant dhokla prepared using oats, i.e. quick-cooking oats, semolina, and yogurt. It is absolutely soft and spongy. It is porous and feels light on the tummy and is easily digestible. Oats dhokla makes for a good oats recipe and a healthy breakfast recipe. When teamed with tangy and spicy green chutney, it becomes an ideal weekday breakfast.

Let’s talk about the ingredients for Instant Dhokla using Oats:

I am always looking for some oats recipes as well as dhokla recipes, especially instant dhokla recipes are my favorite. Reason being, dhokla is a steamed snack, generally prepared using all healthy ingredients, calls for simple accompaniments such as chuntey or chai and can be packed for kids tiffin as it doesn’t get dry or soggy, rather maintains its texture. Following are the ingredients required for Instant Oats Dhokla recipe:

Oats:  There are different kinds of oats available in the market. For the oats recipes, especially Indian oats recipes, quick cooking oats are used. One of my favorite oats recipes is the overnight oats recipe. I shall soon post it on the blog too.

Semolina: Little semolina is also added along with oats which give the body to the dhokla.

Yogurt: Yogurt and water are added to make instant oats dhokla.

Fruit Salt: As such this oats recipe calls for baking soda. But I don’t like the soapy taste of soda. Therefore I prefer to use fruit salt, i.e. Eno, instead of baking soda.

Flavoring: Ginger paste and chili paste add the necessary flavors to the dhokla. Little sugar is also added which balances the flavors.

Tempering and garnishing: Keeping it all simple I have tempered the oats dhokla with mustard seeds and oil. You can also use sesame seeds, green chilies, etc. Further, you can garnish the oats dhokla with fresh coriander leaves.

Hi! I am CA Vini Mehta. A Chartered Accountant by profession, a food blogger by passion! First of all, I would like to thank you for stopping by at Viniscookbook, I hope you have a good time. Here, yo...u will find the recipes which have been tried, at times re-tried in my kitchen and relished on the dining table. I am mother of two kids and the wife of a person with a high and selective taste sense, so basically anything, before finding its place on the blog, has many levels to cross and clear. This journey started a couple of years back. Before that I was making the most usual kind of food. The only experiment used to be asking my mother how to make something new or different☺. Then, one day, I tried a recipe for butter cookies. And they did not get to go in the container as they were over before I could store them. That day I was introduced to the joy of experimenting with recipes. And I loved everything else that followed especially garnishing and photographing food. I am still not well versed with the photography dos and don’ts but I love to experiment and learn, be it photography or cooking. Hope you too enjoy this journey as much as I do☺! Stay healthy, stay tuned!.
