Murmura is puffed rice and murmure namkeen is an Indian snack using puffed rice along with a few more ingredients such as garlic, peanuts, curry leaves and spices such as turmeric powder, red chili powder etc. It is also known as murmura chivda. It is one of my favorite snack recipes because it is super easy and quick to make. Murmure namkeen is healthy and if we talk about puffed rice calories, there is some really good news. Puffed rice is low in calories and is therefore ideal for the weight watchers. It is a perfect Indian snack for munching with the tea. Even kids love to indulge in this namkeen.
Namkeen is one of the most common Indian snacks. A variety of Haldiram namkeen is famous. Be it Haldiram bhujia or aloo bhujia and so on. However, the snacks prepared at home have their own taste and the best part is that these can be customized. In India many snacks are prepared at home. However, for this one we need
Puffed Rice /Murmura/Laiya: Make sure to use fresh and crisp murmura for the best results.
Spices: Very basic spices i.e. turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt have been used. Even amchur powder has not been used for this recipe. Turmeric powder has been used in a good quantity because it not only gives a beautiful color to the namkeen but also gives a distinct taste.
Flavoring: A hint of garlic takes this namkeen to another level. Curry leaves also give a very nice flavor to it.
Other ingredients: Peanuts, it is a very important ingredient. Peanut gives a wonderful bite to the namkeen. Even roasted chana can be added.
Although a variety of namkeen and Indian snacks are available in the market. I like to make the snacks at home. This way we always eat fresh and I can very well customize the snack recipes as the taste of my kids. Chivda recipes are made most frequently. My family’s favorite chivda is roasted poha chivda. Atta mathri is another snack we love.
